A Sensual Cabaret — Post-Punk Project She Her Sir Debuts Sultry Video for “Howling”

She Her Sir, the latest aural endeavour by illustriously queer multimedia virtuoso Cristy Michel (Agender, You Can Call Me Sir), promises to ensnare the discerning ears of the darkwave denizens drifting on the margins between dreams and reality. With the premiere of its debut single, “Howling,” listeners are transported to a resonant reverie full of overwhelming sensuality. The song, swathed in its fervent emotion, retraces Michel’s intimate journey to her Southern cradle, offering an ode to the luxuriant fabric of New Orleans and its vibrant queer artistic community.

“Howling” elegantly weaves together a tender serenade of affection and a hymn of recollection, encapsulating the singular artistic lens of She Her Sir. This piece heralds their fresh odyssey into self-contemplation and revelation.

In a symbolic gesture toward regained clarity, the video (directed by Daviel Shy) depicts glasses filled to the brim with untouched spirits, emblematic of excess and luxury. Alone in a dim theatre, Michel attentively watches the burlesque acts of her contemporaries on stage. An apparition of her younger self appears, looking listlessly and vacantly at the older self who observes from a lone seat in the audience.

Set against the bewitching ambiance of the AllWays Lounge & Cabaret, nestled in the pulsating heart of New Orleans, the music video for “Howling” offers a reflective passage through epochs and sentiments. After a twenty-year sojourn in Los Angeles, Michel bears witness to a concluding performance at the cabaret, reacquainting herself with the sultry displays of a queer artist ensemble – the very personas that had ignited her artistic spirit.

As the acts linger on past the soirée’s climax, an evocative query lingers: Why does she remain ensconced in her seat? On the cusp of a transformative clarity, Michel stands poised to leave behind the comforting grip of yesteryears, heralding a dawning era of rejuvenation.

Turn over a new leaf and be mesmerized:

“She Her Sir will unfold as a project with an overarching narrative weaving all of the songs together,” says Michel. “So many brilliant artists collaborated to make the project possible, and I was able to dig deeper lyrically than I have in the past.”
