A Place Both Wonderful and Strange Premiere “Kristae (The Strawberry Girl)”

Brooklyn-based duo a place both wonderful and strange are releasing their new EP, The City Smells Like Cat Spit, on August 23rd. The EP sees the band supplementing their occult electronic meditations with Factory-inspired basslines and shoegaze textures.

The EP is also a celebration of the band’s road-tested material, featuring two re-recorded versions of tracks from 2017’s What I Speak I Create that showcase the band’s knack for live reinvention. Most notably, exclusive track “Kristae (The Strawberry Girl)” is their strongest to date. The track thick electronic atmosphere, motorik, minimal percussion, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Laura Hajek’s treated bass, and Russ Marshalek’s downpitched vocals, all of which evoke the unsettling-yet-satisfying mood of early Fever Ray and naturally, the shadow side of David Lynch’s various sonic explorations from which the band was borne.

The band have also released a video for “Kristae,” offering a hazy glimpse into the band’s live dynamic. The video is courtesy of That Russian Guy, and was filmed during one of the band’s latest live performances on Subvert’s Secret Boat. With that in mind, the band will be performing a release show for The City Smells Like Cat Spit on Saturday, 8/25 at Wonders of Nature in Brooklyn, NY. Limited edition hand-numbered CD copies of the EP will also be available at the gig.
