“We are made of star-stuff.” – Carl Sagan
Carl Sagan’s reminder that our bodies are forged from the dust of ancient stars has always carried a quiet comfort — a reminder that even in our smallest, loneliest moments, we belong to something vast and luminous. That idea shines through Bliss Abyss’s debut single, “Star.” It’s a song that glows with tenderness and renewal, hovering between dream and memory, light and loss — a soundtrack for looking up and finding hope reflected back.
From its first chiming notes, Star feels like light flooding a room. Guitars shimmer with a soft halo of reverb; the bassline moves with calm assurance. It swells from dream-pop introspection into a soaring, crystalline overdrive. Disintegration—era Cure but with starlight illuminating gloom, more Boo Radleys “Does This Hurt?”, but without that bitterness and despair. There’s also warmth here that recalls Chapterhouse’s Whirlpool — radiant, weightless, and full of life. Star is a song that doesn’t dwell on what’s been lost; it celebrates the light that remains.
“The song started as a kind of spell, a vision of manifesting a life worth living,” says frontman Peter Wallner. “It’s meant to spark hope in anyone who’s lost. Picture the life you want, the person you actually are, and don’t let anyone’s bullshit block your light. You’re a star, perfect as you are, made from stardust, burning through the same abyss as everyone else.”

Bliss Abyss exists where shoegaze’s reverb-drenched glow meets post-punk’s melodic pulse. The project channels the radiance of dream-pop and the momentum of alternative rock into something timeless and familiar. Led by Peter Wallner, the band creates music that feels alive with motion — songs that reach for the infinite while staying rooted in human connection. Star offers the first glimpse of what producer Joe Finocchio aptly calls “an album of timeless singles,” introducing a band intent on building constellations out of melody.
A veteran of the Bay Area underground, Wallner has long been part of its creative pulse — from the industrial-shoegaze duo Astronomers Anonymous and synth-punk trio Whisper to his time with Wax Idols under the name Peter Lightning. Later, he joined Heaven’s Club on keyboards, which led to his stint touring Europe with Deafheaven in 2022. Over the years, he has honed a sound that fuses atmosphere and immediacy, melody and momentum.
Bliss Abyss began as a home-studio project during the pandemic, evolving from synth-pop sketches into a full-band collaboration after Wallner met Finocchio through the hardcore collective Culture Spy. The two connected instantly, joined by bassist Kevin None and drummer Josh Unger. Together they shape a sound that feels luminous yet grounded — like sunrise breaking through fog.

The band’s forthcoming album moves through many moods, yet remains tied together by Wallner’s lyrical sense of wonder. His songs blend the cosmic and the personal, turning longing into light. Star is the opening spark — a reminder that no matter how endless the night feels, we all carry the same radiance within.
