Take it all nice and slow
Like those endless hot summers
Like nature returned to dust
We walk on polluted beaches, feeling our bodies disintegrating
Suede, enduring luminaries of British alternative rock, have announced their tenth studio album, Antidepressants. The forthcoming record promises to be rooted deeply in post-punk sensibilities and poised for release on September 5, 2025, via BMG. The LP follows 2022’s widely acclaimed Autofiction, marking their fifth studio effort since reuniting in 2010.
Leading the charge is the stark monochrome single “Disintegrate,” produced by longtime collaborator Ed Buller, responsible for the band’s seminal early works, including their iconic self-titled debut and its lavish successor, Dog Man Star, both revered for their inherent post-punk spirit. Notably, “Heroine,” for example, from Dog Man Star stands as one of the band’s most compelling post-punk anthems. With angular guitars and an undercurrent of tension, “Disintegrate” echoes those formative releases, evoking a propulsive rawness that underscores the band’s narrative throughlines of existentialism and alienation.
The lyrics of “Disintegrate” encapsulate themes of decay, emotional volatility, and existential fragility, vividly capturing the disillusionment of modern existence. Lines such as “Come down and disintegrate with me, we’re cut down like the daisies, like the tall poppies,” reference the concept of “tall poppy syndrome”—a social phenomenon where individuals who achieve notable success are resented, criticized, or “cut down” by others to maintain status quo and discourage standing out. While being “cut down like daisies” poetically captures how quickly transient our lives are, and how easily things can fall apart.
Frontman Brett Anderson vividly articulates the album’s vision: “If Autofiction was our punk record, Antidepressants is our post-punk record. It’s about the tensions of modern life, the paranoia, the anxiety, the neurosis. We are all striving for connection in a disconnected world. This was the feel I wanted the songs to have. The album is called Antidepressants. This is broken music for broken people.” Bassist Mat Osman further contextualizes the record as “widescreen and ambitious,” promising listeners an expansive experience.

Antidepressants was recorded live with Ed Buller, who produced a number of Suede’s records since they first worked together on debut single ‘The Drowners’ in 1992. “It is genuinely exciting being in this band,” Anderson continued. “It feels like we’re still pushing creatively.”
Recorded live across studios in Belgium, London, and Sweden, the production captures the immediacy and visceral energy characteristic of the band’s best performances. The tracklist includes provocative titles such as “Dancing With the Europeans,” “Sweet Kid,” and “Life Is Endless, Life Is a Moment.”
In celebration of the release, Suede will commandeer London’s Southbank Centre for an ambitious four-night residency in September. Dubbed the “Suede Takeover,” these performances will mix classics and new compositions, concluding spectacularly with their first-ever full orchestral show alongside the Paraorchestra.
Antidepressants will be released on September 5th across multiple formats, including standard CD and vinyl editions, deluxe CD with additional tracks, and an exclusive box set brimming with collectible merchandise.
