In the recesses of Italy’s underground, Shad Shadows, comprised of Luca Bandini (vocals, synth, drum machines) and Alessandra Gismondi (synth, vocals), plunge headlong into the subteranean depths of synth-driven dusk. Drawn together by an affinity for obscure electronic sounds, the duo first joined forces in the cold months of 2014, inspired by experimental electronica, the pulse of industrial dance, and the allure of vintage film soundtracks.
Their latest release, Divination (from Wunderkammer Desire), moves through surreal territories where reality softens and imagination takes hold. It’s a space where mysticism meets machinery, vocals drift above evocative synth lines, and gothic atmosphere blends with the drive of dark disco. The synthesizers are laced with Morodor beats that echo the polish of Propaganda, the pop charge of Eurythmics, and the Human League’s luminous hooks.
In stark, monochromatic DIY visuals, Shad Shadows wander through scenes steeped in strangeness. Figures drift through deserted streets, cross bridges, frolic under strobe lights, and move through ancient fortresses where shadows fall heavy. These silhouettes enact rituals of rhythm and memory, navigating the quiet current of night with grace and restraint, drawn toward something just out of reach.
