The Cure Announces “Mixes of a Lost World” Remix Album

To celebrate his 66th birthday, Robert Smith bestowed a special gift upon fans: Re-Cursion. The Cure have unveiled Mixes of a Lost World, a sprawling remix album that reinterprets last year’s Songs of a Lost World, an album that marked their first studio release in sixteen years.

“Just after Christmas I was sent a couple of unsolicited remixes of Songs of a Lost World tracks and I really loved them,” says Robert Smith. “The Cure has a colourful history with all kinds of dance music, and I was curious as to how the whole album would sound entirely reinterpreted by others. This curiosity resulted in a fabulous trip through all 8 songs by 24 wonderful artists and remixers and is way beyond anything I could have hoped for. Giving our recording royalties from the project to War Child helps make Mixes of a Lost World an even more special release.”

The collection features reworkings by Four Tet, Mogwai, Chino Moreno, Orbital, and others, bending the band’s sorrowful sprawl into new forms. It is a remix not just of music, but of memory, mood, and the persistent ache of unfinished thoughts. Split across two or three discs, depending on format, the album arrives in June, with all royalties supporting War Child UK.

The Cure have also shared two tracks from the album. Four Tet’s version of Alone (previously released as a Record Store Day exclusive) brings a deceptively vibrant dance beat to the heartbreaking track:

Paul Oakenfold’s ‘Cinematic’ remix of I Can Never Say Goodbye, on the other hand, amplifies the pathos with its plodding, explosive drama.

The standard 2CD and 2LP editions will include fresh remixes of all eight tracks from Songs of a Lost World. For those seeking more, the deluxe three-disc sets, available as 3CD and 3LP, expand the experience with additional reworks by Chino Moreno (Deftones), Mogwai, 65daysofstatic, and more. The third bonus disc features a full alternate remix of the album, offering listeners three distinct reinterpretations of the original record.

The 3LP set is half-speed mastered and comes with a poster, as does the 3CD edition. Both versions are available on cassette, which is exclusive to The Cure’s shop.
