Philadelphia’s Voix in the Dark, helmed by DeShawn Timothy, joins forces with veteran sonic alchemist Maduro (Dave Buracker) to conjure Void of Love, a razor-edged two-track release carved from chrome and cold circuits. Timothy’s stripped-back, minimal synth punches intertwine with Maduro’s meticulous electronic manipulations, creating a captivating collision of sounds. This fusion yields the shiny yet gritty essence of Y2K-era electroclash, expertly blended with the electrifying pulse of old-school EBM. The result? A mutant sound that prowls the dancefloor, teeth bared and twitching.
Maduro’s pedigree is stamped across countless corners of electronic music: his fingerprints scattered across compilations from Alfa Matrix to Universal Music Group, with collaborations spanning Wumpscut, Jean-Luc De Meyer, and Venetian Snares. His remix résumé is equally formidable, reshaping tracks by HEALTH, Dean Garcia, and Violent Vickie into something sharper, stranger.
Together, Voix in the Dark and Maduro channel early Miss Kittin and The Hacker’s mechanical menace, laced with modern darkwave and synthpop bite. Void of Love prowls, a lean, lethal nod to past decadence repurposed for present discontent. Perfect for those who like their dance floors dim, sweat-soaked, and slightly dangerous. Void of Love was mastered by Adam Stilson, (Pixel Grip, Hide), etc.
The opening salvo, Heartbeat, which comes with a remix, slithers in like a séance at a circuit board. Vocals coil cold and menacing: one voice low, incantatory, the other high, untethered, entwining like spirits squabbling mid-possession. Robotic pulses twitch beneath, rigid yet hypnotic, inviting hips to sway while the skin crawls. It’s an uncanny communion, the dead gossiping in glitch, unsettling and oddly seductive…perfect for those who prefer their dance floors with a dose of dread.
Then comes the wacky Danse: all bloopy synths, bold swagger, and glitter-smeared celebration. Built for a basement drag dive where latex gleams under strobes, it’s a gleeful commandment to keep moving even as everything burns. Fetishised rhythms, indulgent irreverence, and that delicious feeling of losing yourself beneath blinding lights. The track’s heartbeat is relentless: if the world’s set to spin off its axis, best to whirl with it, limbs tangled with friends and strangers, reveling in the ecstatic decay. A decadent danse macabre wrapped in sequins and circuitry…both a kiss and a curse for the end times.
