A dandy of the underground music scene, Blone Noble barrels ahead: brash, blistered, and buzzing—a suave persona inhabited by Los Angeles provocateur Pat Salway, a modern day flaneur who sharpened his teeth through brief stints performing with Cold Cave and Young Guv before stepping solo into the fray.
His debut, Life’s New Adventure, out April 4th via Industry Standards, thrashes together the sharp swagger of Bowie, the clipped cool of Fad Gadget, the theatrical brood of Scott Walker, all lacquered in synths sleek enough to slice. Salway shifts gears without mercy, spinning dark electronic ballads, dark disco detonation, no-wave neck-snappers, and spoken-word tirades in the vein of Ginsberg and Burroughs. Beneath the beats: themes thick as thieves: freedom, destruction, occult musings, restless rebirth. Transformation towers over each track, the record a riot of ruin and reinvention, where philosophy meets the dance floor and everything teeters on the edge of collapse.
“This album documents how I arrived at my current writing process, which has become completely intuitive,” Blone says. “Establish a groove, layer synths, and allow the sonic textures to inspire imagery and themes in the lyrics. Other art forms I’m involved with like prose writing, acting and various avant-garde performance styles help me discover themes to explore and how I want to present the songs on stage. Playing with collage and paint were a large part of keeping my well filled with new ideas over the course of making the record. Some threads were sparked by conversations heard in passing or raving lunacy witnessed on the metro.”
Alongside the album release on April 4th, Industry Standards will also publish Blone Noble’s surrealistic novel Festum Stultorum, penned in tandem with the record’s creation—a literary companion to the chaos. His live performances—feral, theatrical—leave no stage unshaken, while his tracks are spinning regularly on LA staples like KXLU and KSPC.
This spring, Blone hits the road once again. The tour kicks off March 27 in Tijuana, snaking through Mexico, Canada, and the US…cities left swaying in his wake. Fresh off a fevered winter run, he’ll ride bus, train, and plane toward something wild, untamed, and fully alive. Catch him soon, before the dust settles.
