Chameleons (true to their name) have transformed and slipped through time, their influence rippling far beyond their own era. Their legacy, however, refuses to stand still. With 2024’s Where Are You?, they stepped forward once more, greeted not just by longtime loyalists, but by a fresh legion of younger devotees, drawn to the band’s raw sincerity and unshakable spirit. Chameleons’ resurgence is no mere nostalgia trip; it is a second storm. This spring, they take that momentum east of the Mississippi, co-headlining with Texas darkwave duo Twin Tribes, proving that their music…aching, urgent, undeniable…continues to find new hearts, new ears, and new life on the road.
“We feel the band is better than ever and it’s nice to see so many people responding to it,” says vocalist/bassist Vox about the renaissance that the band is experiencing. “Our approach to making the music hasn’t changed,” Vox hints, “although having found a regular producer in Christophe Bride at Oxygene has helped out development tremendously. His studio in Manchester, UK is a great environment to work in. We feel our sound is fresher and more contemporary which seems to resonate very strongly with our younger audience that are turning out to see us in such great numbers.”
Chameleons’ sound is a storm of contrasts: fierce yet fragile, mournful yet electric, where hypnotic riffs spiral skyward and lyrics strike deep with the weight of memory. They remain one of the most influential guitar bands to rise from the post-punk era, their fingerprints pressed into the bones of shoegaze, indie, and everything in between. They are woven into the DNA of Verve, Oasis, White Lies, The Slow Readers Club, Interpol, The Killers, Editors, and countless others who have borrowed from their soaring melancholy and restless urgency.
Despite their undeniable impact, Chameleons remain Manchester’s best-kept secret, a band revered yet too often overlooked. Now, decades since their last full-length studio release, they ready Arctic Moon, set to arrive in 2025. With time’s passage, their fire has not dimmed; if anything, it burns hotter, brighter, hungrier.
“It’s quite different from anything Chameleons has done before, and I know this will probably polarize the legacy audience, but we’re quite excited about how it’s developing,” says Vox. “I think the songwriting is much more mature in a lot of ways, which is to be expected, I suppose, given our age, but I, for one, really believe we’re taking the band forward, and I’m quite excited about it.”
Chameleons kick things off in Minneapolis on April 25th and moving east, including shows in Chicago (April 26th), Montreal (April 29th), Brooklyn (May 3rd) before concluding in Silver Spring, MD on May 4th.
“It’s always nice to go to a city for the first time, so I’m kind of interested to do that,” Vox explains. “The cities that I do know have all been enjoyable to play in the past, and I really relish getting back to them. The bottom line though is we love to play this music and we’re excited to do that no matter where we go!”
