Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s Winter Hell (Lindy Wise, Will Beringer, Jacob Vande Vegte, and Jacob Lemme) have released a hypnotic new single, “High Time.” This track channels the minimalist electro sound of Air, Télépopmusik, and Röyksopp, cleaving it into a shimmering, psychedelic shoegaze kaleidoscope of expansive sound. We also hear elements of Suicide, Smashing Pumpkins, Spaceman 3, and Psychic TV.
Themes of sobriety, heartbreak, and identity are the building blocks for “High Time.” Its optimistic sound circles the lyrics’ deep soul searching, and redirects it into a mirror of self-contemplation. It is deceptively gentle; mimicking the high we often seek to mask inner pain. Vocalist Lindy Wise emotes this tenderness with his hypnotic voice, floating in a massive sea of atmospheric synths as the chorus builds, breaks down, and re-emerges.
The band describes their sound as “music for massage, introspection, and love.”
