5 Disc UK Goth box: ‘Silhouettes & Statues: A Gothic Revolution 1978-1986’ out this June via Cherry Red

One of the best labels for oldschool UK Goth, Cherry Red Records—has announced this week its plans to release a five-disc box set titled Silhouettes & Statues: A Gothic Revolution 1978-1986 that chronicles some of the best first wave U.K.’s Goth acts over 82 tracks that span the late ’70s through up until the mid ’80s.

“From the cold reality of post-punk, through positive punk and the Batcave scene and into the mid-1980s. Over 80 tracks, previously unseen photographs and 18,000+ words of sleevenotes, including contributions from artists.”

Positive Punk is a key word here, as the collection features many early Goth jems, dating from before the genre had it’s official name, along with an impressive assortment of marquis acts such as Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, Love and Rockets, and The Mission along with lesser-known and under-rated groups such as Rema Rema, Lowlife, Inca Babies, Siiiii, Sad Lovers and Giants, Zero Le Creche, and more.
